MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about Mainstage productions for the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC.

Below is information regarding the submission guidelines for the Mainstage productions. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

             All mainstage productions submitted must be mounted by December 31, 2016.

2017 NBTF SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

In order for NBTF to notify you promptly, each submission package must include the following:

A formal letter of introduction clearly stating the following:

* Name of company, address, city, state, zip code, office numbers (phone/fax), website.
*  Producer’s name, address, city, state, zip code, phone numbers (home, office, cell), e-mail address
*  Writer’s name, address, city, state, zip code, phone numbers (home, office, cell), e-mail address
*  Director’s name, address, city, state, zip code, phone numbers (home, office, cell), e-mail address
 * A DVD, vimeo or Youtube link of the complete play. Electronic submissions should be sent to hamlinss@ncblackrep.org
 * Play synopsis
 * Printed reviews of play. Identify the publication(s). Send copies only.
* Identify celebrity performers.
* A submission  fee  $35.00 is required  to cover administrative expenses.

All checks/money orders  should be made payable to the North Carolina Black Repertory Co. (NCBRC).

NBTF FRINGE

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the NBTF Fringe, a component of the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Festival spotlight shines bright on the most professional collegiate theatre productions from around the world. NBTF Fringe is primarily a performance showcase for college and university students. It affords theatre companies and theatrical student organizations affiliated with accredited junior or senior colleges in the United States and in other countries an opportunity to perform one-act or full-length productions of new and contemporary works as well as productions of Black classics.

Below is information  regarding the submission guidelines for the NBTF Fringe. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

GARLAND LEE THOMPSON SR. READERS’ THEATRE OF NEW WORKS

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the Garland Lee Thompson Sr. Readers’ Theatre of New Works, a component of the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC.

One of the integral components of the Festival is the Readers’ Theatre of New Works. The series is designed to showcase the work of playwrights of color. Garland Lee Thompson Jr., Executive and Artistic Director of the Frank Silvera Writers’ Workshop, is the curator of the series.

The series is made up of two components.

New Plays at High Noon   
                and
Theatre Conversations at Midnight

2017 NBTF SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

In order for NBTF to notify you promptly, each submission package must include the following:

A  formal letter of introduction clearly stating the following information:

*Writer’s Name, address, city, state, zip, phone numbers (home, office, cell), email address
*A brief synopsis of your play
*Typed script, NO LONGER THAN 100 PAGES (not including title page or character lists) that adheres to the industry standard “Modern Stage Play” format. Please note: plays longer than 100 pages will NOT be accepted or considered for this series

*PDF format
*Font: Times Roman or Arial – 12 pt.
*Three-hole punched
 *Please do not staple script
*For this reading series no musicals or one person shows will be accepted
 *A submission fee of $35.00 is required to cover administrative expenses.

NBTF FILM FEST

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the NBTF Film Fest, a component of the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF). Festival dates are July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC. The NBTF Film Fest attracts audiences from an array of backgrounds and ages, making it an ideal venue for your artistry.

This event recognizes culturally diverse, independent filmmakers for their enormous contributions to the industry. Share your riveting stories, showoff camera and technical expertise and flaunt courageous explorations outside the boundaries of a traditional approach.

NBTF Film Fest focuses on Shorts (30 min or less including credits). This ensures each film has a minimum of two showings during festival week. However, extraordinary and impactful features and documentaries have been selected in past years.

Please note, these events are free and open to the public of all ages, thus film presenters are not paid nor are travel/lodging costs covered.

Below is information  regarding the Film Fest guidelines. Please be aware of all deadlines dates as each they differ for each component.

2017 NBTF SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

*The URL to the complete film.
*If film is not online, submit two DVD’s of the complete film.
–  DVD label must display film name and total film length.
*Film synopsis with total running time of film plus length of credits.
*URL to film trailer—it will be linked to the NBTF web page for promotion!
*Printed reviews of film. Identify the publication (s). Send copies only
*Highlight of celebrity performers.
*A submission fee of $35.00 is required to cover administrative expenses.

LARRY LEON HAMLIN SOLO PERFORMANCE SERIES

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the Larry Leon Hamlin Solo Performance Series (LLHSPS), a component of the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Larry Leon Hamlin Solo Performance Series (LLHSPS) is dedicated and named in honor of the NBTF founder, focus is exclusively on historical biographies. The objective of the series is to provide a medium for professional artists to expose their work to presenters and sponsors seeking entertainment for their schools, institutions, and organizations. The series serves as an educational tool by bringing to life, through theatre, the biographies of known and unknown African Americans.

Thank you for inquiring about the Workshops & Seminars, a component of the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF). Festival dates are July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC.  An array of workshops and seminars are conducted by theatre professionals, scholars and celebrities during festival week.

These events are free and open to the public of all ages, thus workshop presenters are not paid nor are travel/lodging costs covered.

*Detailed list of physical needs.

Each presenter is responsible for providing all technical equipment they need for the workshop/seminar.

INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM

Thank you for inquiring about the International Colloquium, a component of the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 31 – August 5, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC.  The International Colloquium is a collaborative effort between the National Black Theatre Festival, Winston-Salem State University and the Black Theatre Network.

Theme:
The Black Theater: Reflections of Citizenship, Access, Freedom and Criminal Justice

Dates and Deadlines:
1. Monday, February 28, 2017: Proposal Abstracts must be received by 5:00 p.m.
2. Monday, March 31, 2017: Acceptances announced, and Invitation sent to presenters and panel leaders. These will be accompanied with terms of participation and hospitality
3. Wednesday, May 02, 2017: Acceptance of Invitation to present must reach the Task Force at the addressed provided.
4. Thursday, June 09, 2017: Submission of Draft Presentations should reach the Coordinator, Dr. Oyèláràn, ready to go to Facilitators and Discussants. It is critical that discussants receive your presentation no later than July 01. That will enable them prepare creative leads for productive audience participation.
